Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 8, 2025

1. Introduction

Aerium Labs ("we," "our," or "us") operates Cirrus, a Chrome browser extension that provides intelligent tab management, time tracking, and productivity tools. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Cirrus Chrome extension.

By installing or using Cirrus, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the extension.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Processed Locally (On Your Device)

Cirrus is designed with privacy in mind. The following data is processed and stored only on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Tab metadata: URLs, titles, and domains of open tabs — used to enable tab management commands (e.g., close by domain, close by age)
  • Usage analytics: Time spent per tab, last access time, foreground/background time — used to display usage insights and power the "close unused tabs" features
  • Domain rules: Your preferences for specific domains (e.g., "never close" or "auto close after 1 hour")
  • Settings and preferences: Hotkeys, aliases, command palette customizations

2.2 Account Information (If You Subscribe)

If you choose to subscribe to Cirrus Pro or other paid features, we may collect account-related information such as your email address and payment details. This information is used solely for subscription management and access control — not for tracking your browsing behavior.

2.3 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, sell, or analyze your browsing history, page content, or any personal data derived from your tab usage. Tab metadata and usage data remain on your device.

3. Chrome Extension Permissions

Cirrus requests certain Chrome permissions to function. Here is what each permission is used for:

  • tabs: To list, close, and manage your browser tabs; display tab titles and URLs in the command palette
  • storage: To save your settings, domain rules, and usage data locally (chrome.storage.local)
  • alarms: To run scheduled tasks such as auto-closing tabs based on your rules
  • scripting (if used): To interact with tab content only when necessary for extension functionality

We request only the minimum permissions required for the extension to work. We do not access tab content, form data, or passwords.

4. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide tab management, time tracking, and automation features
  • To store and apply your domain rules and preferences
  • To manage your subscription and account (if applicable)
  • To improve the extension and fix bugs (using anonymized, aggregated data where applicable)

5. Data Storage and Retention

Local data (tab metadata, usage analytics, rules, settings) is stored in Chrome's local storage on your device. It persists until you uninstall the extension or clear extension data. We do not retain copies of this data on our servers.

Account and subscription data is retained as long as your account is active and as required for legal and operational purposes.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: Payment processors (e.g., Stripe) for subscription billing — they have their own privacy policies
  • Legal requirements: When required by law, court order, or government request
  • Protection of rights: To protect our rights, safety, or property, or that of our users

7. Third-Party Services

Cirrus may integrate with third-party services (e.g., payment providers, analytics for the website). These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them. Our extension itself operates on-device and does not send your tab or usage data to third parties.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data. Local data stored by the extension is protected by Chrome's built-in security. For account and payment data, we rely on industry-standard encryption and secure practices from our service providers.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent

To exercise these rights or request deletion of your account data, contact us at hello@aeriumlabs.in. You can also uninstall the extension at any time to stop all local processing and remove locally stored data.

10. Children's Privacy

Cirrus is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. International Data Transfers

Aerium Labs is based in India. If you use Cirrus from outside India, your data may be transferred to and processed in India or other countries where our service providers operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of Cirrus after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
